Ex Smiths star and City fan, Johnny Marr, is to headline Manchester City’s season launch party.
The City Live event will be held on 14 August at Manchester Central and will be hosted by another City fan, comedian Jason Manford.
Marr, the lead guitarist and co-songwriter with The Smiths, was named a ‘God Like Genius’ by the NME last year.
After a short spell with Yorkshire band The Cribs he brought out his debut solo album in 2013. His new album is due out at the end of 2014.
Speaking about the event, he said: “Like Manchester, City has always been a club steeped in music. Going right back to Maine Road, there was always a couple of musicians or bands from across the City in the stands. It’s the same today at the Etihad.
“City fans just know how to have a good time, so to play to a packed Manchester Central, will not only be a great party to mark the start of this season, but also a special moment for me personally.”
City Live will showcase what’s in store for the 2014/15 season, both on and off the pitch.
It will also see the club’s end-of-season awards being presented to players. Gongs up for grabs include the Etihad Player of the Year and Moment of the Season.
New club signings including Bacary Sagna and Fernando will also be presented to the City fans.
Tickets are between £15-25. Call 0161 444 1894, go to www.mcfc.co.uk/tickets or visit the Stadium Ticket Office located behind the stage in BT City Square.
