Liverpool are ready to table a second bid for defender Dejan Lovren, having seen their first £14 million offer rejected out of hand.
A bid of around £21 million would be needed to prize the centreback from Southampton, but manager Brendan Rodgers does not believe that this represents good value. A second bid of around £18 million is now being considered.
The 24-year-old Croatia international joined Southampton from Lyon last summer for £8.5 million, but despite signing a four year contract is keen to move on.
Southampton are adamant that talks will only start if a “sensible” offer is made.
