Manchester Phoenix are launching a women’s ice hockey team and will hold a tryout and training sessions at the new Silverblades ice rink in Widnes later this month.
The first session will take place on 22 January from 10pm to 11pm.
Prospective players will be offered four training sessions free of charge to let them try out for the team without having to make a financial commitment upfront. Recruitment will mainly be focused on over-16s, although younger players could also be allowed to train with the squad.
There are already women’s teams in Sheffield, Kingston, Guildford, Slough, Bracknell and Solihull, and Phoenix hope to establish a successful sister club in Widnes.
In other news, Phoenix are adding a training slot for the club’s sledge hockey team at the Widnes rink. The first session, which is open to new players, will take place on 22 January from 8.45pm to 9.45pm.
For more information on either training session, contact Manchester Phoenix on 0161 301 6848 or email info@manchesterphoenix.co.uk.
