Did you know a well-maintained garden can add up to 20% to the value of your property? Taking care of your outdoor space not only makes it visually appealing to passers by and those who visit, but it can also increase the value of your home – an added bonus if you decide to sell in the future.
Now, gardens don’t have to be filled with flowers and greenery to make it look well-maintained and not everyone has the time to constantly weed and water. However, there are loads of different ways you can improve your garden to create an outdoor space you’re proud to be seen in. We’ve highlighted some of our favourites below:
Look after the lawn
Overgrown grass gives off negative feelings of neglect so take the time to dust off the lawnmower and cut the grass. Going over the edges with a strimmer gives it a clean finish and stops it looking unruly. You can buy grass feed and lawn fertiliser to make sure you have the greenest lawn on the street.
If looking after the lawn is too much work, you could consider artificial grass which doesn’t require regular watering or mowing but looks like real grass.
Add a decked area
Create a decked area with decking boards which can be used as a place to sit and relax with friends and family throughout the day and in the evening. Make use of any unused space and add seating with weather-proof cushions, a table, and barbeque. It’s perfect for summer days when you want to soak in the sun.
Plant some flowers
Flowers add a splash of colour to the garden using flower beds, planters, or pots. The weather can be unpredictable in the UK but there is a list of flowers that will grow anywhere, including lavender, daylilies, and cranesbill geranium.
If you’re not sold on the idea of looking after flowers, consider bushes or shrubs which also aid with creating a structure in the garden. They will need the odd trim to stop them overgrowing.
Small details
Every night can be a starry one by hanging some outdoor lights. Use solar powered ones that are cost effective to maintain. You could also give your garden fence a fresh lick of paint to inject some life into it once more. If you have a wooden fence, a wood stain would protect the timber.
Create an outdoor space that you’re proud to sit in whilst enjoying a cup of tea. There’s plenty of ways to create a garden that you love and you can’t go wrong if it’s adding value to your overall property.
